The airline has been on an expansion plan in the last few months in a plan which looks set to add it more revenue.

"Today met with Jorge Rosas, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Mexico in Nairobi, to explore potential opportunities for our operations to and from Mexico. The discussion highlighted strong cargo prospects and broader opportunities for strengthening connectivity between Kenya and Mexico," said Kenya Airways chief executive Allan Kilavuka in a statement as seen by TUKO.co.ke.

He said that plans to start the flights come at a time when there is an existing bilateral air service agreement between Kenya and Mexico, which was initiated in 2021.

"With such a foundation already in place, we see great potential in advancing air service connections between the two countries," he said.

Kenya Airways is planning to acquire more freighter planes next year to accommodate growing cargo demand across its markets.

It also plans to start flights to London's Gatwick Airport starting Wednesday, July 2 in expansion plans aimed at raking in more revenue.

KQ posts impressive results

The airline made a net profit of KSh 5.4 billion for the financial year ended December 2024, a turnaround from the KSh 22.7 billion loss recorded in 2023.

The airline's total income grew to KSh 188.5 billion, a 5.6% increase from the KSh 178.5 billion reported in 2023.

During the period under review, the airline's operating profit surged to KSh 16.6 billion, up from KSh 10.5 billion in 2023, as it controlled its operating cost, which stood at KSh 171.9 billion, despite rising fuel prices and expenses.

The carrier attributed the improved performance to a combination of higher passenger numbers, strategic cost-cutting measures, and favourable foreign exchange gains.
