Weeks after a string of major storms that brought inches of rain and tornadoes to Tennessee continues as more storms are expected this week.

On April 2, a string of storm systems pounded West and Middle Tennessee with more than 12 inches of rain in some areas and destroyed towns as tornadoes ripped through communities. The last string of storms headed into the Mississippi and Tennessee valleys are expected to bring even more rain and possible flooding to areas in Tennessee throughout the week, according to reports from the National Weather Service.

Here's a look at what Tenneseans can expect weather-wise this coming week.

Tennessee weather outlook: Severe storms to bring rain, possible flooding

The Mississippi River at Memphis and other communities in West Tennessee has already surpassed the flooding stage at 34 feet, sitting at just below 37 feet on Sunday, April 20. Showers and thunderstorms continued to roll through the Mid-South on Monday, April 21.

And the National Weather Service expects more rain on and off this week, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms and has issued a flood warning for the West Tennessee area through April 26.

Middle and East Tennessee don't have the flood risk the people in West Tennessee face, but there is still rain in the forecast with possible severe storms Monday evening, but the threat of severe weather will be diminished for the rest of the week across the Volunteer State.

April brings summer showers

The storms expected to hit the middle of the state for the rest of the week might bring more thoughts of summer showers than the severe weather that usually comes during the month of April.

"...we`ll be moving into more of a summer- like pattern as a series of shortwaves allows for daily chances for showers and storms," read the forecast discussion from the National Weather Service out of Nashville.

While West Tennessee still has a danger of floods into the weekend, the storm systems coming through are expected to be low risk for severe weather in the Volunteer State.
