Police on Staten Island are investigating a deadly collision at a major Amazon distribution hub on Wednesday night that claimed a man’s life.
The incident happened at about 10:58 p.m. on April 9 in the rear of the Amazon warehouse at 546 Gulf Ave., in the industrial western end of the island.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police determined that a 40-year-old man, while operating a box truck, backed the vehicle up at the location but wound up striking a pedestrian, later identified as 34-year-old Leony Salcedo-Chevalier of Perth Amboy, NJ.

Law enforcement sources said the box truck driver and Salcedo-Chevalier were Amazon subcontractors.
Following the collision, the driver stopped the vehicle and remained at the scene.
Officers from the 121st Precinct and EMS responded to the incident. Paramedics rushed Salcedo-Chevalier to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The driver, meanwhile, has not been criminally charged at this time, police sources said.
The case has been presented to the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad for further examination.
