Ollie's Bargain Outlet moving in to old MC Sports building

CADILLAC — A franchise company that sells closeout merchandise and excess inventory will soon by opening in Haring Township.

Construction crews are in the process of renovating the old MC Sports building at 8873 East 34 Road. MC Sports closed down in 2017 and the building has been used periodically by Spirit Halloween to sell costumes and accessories.

Project manager Norm McNeely, with Indianapolis-based Cambri Builders, said they’re making some modifications to non-load-bearing walls inside the building, polishing the concrete floor, and making a few minor changes to the exterior before Ollie’s Bargain Outlet moves in.

McNeely said they are scheduled to finish renovation work by May 30. He said they do several of these renovations a year for Ollie’s and generally, they’re moved in within 30 days of the facility being finished.

According to the Ollie’s website, much of the merchandise the company sells comes directly from manufacturers in the U.S. and abroad.

“For example, if a manufacturer makes too much of an item, or changes their packaging, Ollie’s will buy the overstocked or old packaged items,” reads a description on the company’s website. “So, you will always find famous brand name products at Ollie’s, but a lot of them could be last year’s colors, patterns, or packaging that traditional retailers won’t sell ... Ollie’s buyers scour the world looking for closeouts, overstocks, package changes, manufacturer refurbished goods, and irregulars.”

Ollie’s currently operates 524 stores in 31 states, including Michigan. The nearest Ollie’s store is in Big Rapids.
