Marie Stapleton, a self-employed project manager and event planner, has been named president of the Pleasanton Community of Character (PCC), a nonprofit organization created in 2002 to encourage a community culture based on shared values of compassion, honesty, respect, responsibility, integrity, and self-discipline.
Stapleton previously served as a board member for the PCC, which is a collaborative venture of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce, Pleasanton Unified School District and the City of Pleasanton.
She succeeds Craig Eicher as president.
Stapleton and her husband, Padraig, who immigrated from Ireland, have lived in Pleasanton for 23 years.
She is a graduate of University College in Dublin, Ireland, with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science, according to her LinkedIn profile, and left a career in engineering 15 years ago to raise three children.
Her husband is senior vice president of engineering and operations at Zededa, a cloud-management company in San Francisco.
In addition to her involvement with the PCC, Stapleton is board president for Futures Explored, a Concord-based nonprofit that provides programs and advocates for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Over the years, she has also been a volunteer leader with the Pleasanton Mothers Group, PTA at Vintage Hills Elementary School, Pleasanton Middle School Music Boosters, Amador Friends of Music and the Campana Jazz Festival at Amador High School.
In 2016, she received a Juanita Haugen Award for community service from the PCC.
The PCC also awards annual scholarships to high school graduates from Pleasanton.
Eicher, who was elected to the Pleasanton City Council in November, will remain on the PCC board of directors.
