Entertainment and events slated for weekend

Music, movies and a historic locomotive highlight a weekend of events on the Peninsula.

• Concerts in the Barn will present a pre-season gala fundraiser concert at 1 p.m. Saturday in the newly-renovated milking shed next to the barn at the Quilcene Lantern, 7360 Center Road, Quilcene.

The gala program will feature two viola quintets: Mozart’s Viola Quintet in G minor, K. 516 and Dvorak’s Viola Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 97.

The music will be performed by the Fulton St. Chamber Players featuring Dawn Posey, violin; Brittany Boulding, violin; Katie Liu, viola; Rachel Swerdlow, viola; and Walter Gray, cello.

• Jesse Terry will perform at Concerts in the Woods at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle.

Admission is by a suggested donation of $20.

Terry, a Connecticut-based singer-songwriter, will feature music from his seventh album, “Arcadia.”

Terry has spent the last decade playing up to 150 shows annually including such events as Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tenn., and AmericanaFest in Nashville.

Imagined Reality Improv will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.

Tickets are $20 per person and are available at www.olympictheatrearts.org or at the box office.

Members of Imagined Reality, including a scientist, two lawyers, a classical musician, a professor and a writer, create one-of-a-kind shows based on suggestions from the audience.

• Rachelle McCabe will perform a selection of pieces by Mendelssohn, Schubert, Bartók and Debussy at 3 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary at Grace Lutheran Church, 1120 Walker St., Port Townsend.

The concert will complete the three-concert Art and Our Schimmel Grand series that highlights the sound of the church’s Schimmel grand piano that was purchased with a bequest from late congregation member and music lover George Hanson.

A donation of $20 per person is suggested.

McCabe, a professor emerita at Oregon State University, has performed as soloist, duo pianist and a chamber musician throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

McCabe holds a Bachelors from the University of Washington, a Masters from the Juilliard School in New York City and a Doctorate from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The program will open with “Songs without Words” by Mendelssohn and “Drei Klavierstücke” (German for “Three Piano Pieces”) by Schubert.

“Songs without Words” includes Opus 67 No. 3 in B-flat Major, Andante tranquillo and Opus 30 No. 1 in E-flat Major, Andante espressivo.

After the intermission McCabe will continue with “Improvisations on Hungarian Peasant Songs” by Bartok and “Estampes” by Debussy.

• “One Family in Gaza” will be staged at 4 p.m. Sunday at Quimper Grange, 2333 San Juan Ave., Port Townsend.

Admission is free, although donations to feed families in Gaza will be accepted. Donations also can be made at www.save northgaza.org.

The play, written by Crystal Zevon, is based on Facebook messages between her and a Gaza resident named Yasser.

Palestinian food and merchandise will be available following the performance.

• Carla Main and Friends will perform from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Vintage, 725 Water St., Port Townsend.

No cover charge.

• The Buttercup Lane Band will perform for dancing from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Satuday at the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 483, 2843 E. Myrtle St., Port Angeles.

Admission is $10 per person, $8 for lodge members.

• The Sound Advice Band will perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday in Club Seven at the 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, Sequim.

No cover charge.

• The Todalo Shakers will perform at a vintage jug band party at 7 p.m. Sunday at Chimacum Grange, 9572 Rhody Drive, Chimacum.

Admission is $10 to $30 on a sliding scale.

• Sally Franson will read from her novel “Big in Sweden” at 6 tonight at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St., Port Townsend.

Her novel, which follows Paulie Johansson, an American woman competing on a Swedish reality show, is the Port Townsend Public Library’s 2025 Community Read.

Franson’s presentation will be followed by a book signing with copies of her book for sale by the Imprint Bookshop.

Franson was a 2022 cast member of Allt för Sverige, a Swedish reality TV show about finding your roots, along with Melody Sky Weaver, the director of Port Townsend’s Department of Community Services.

In addition to “Big in Sweden,” Franson also is the author A Lady’s Guide to Selling Out,” a Minnesota Book Award finalist.

• The Marine Swap Meet and Yard Sale is set for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parking lot at the Port Angeles Yacht Club, 1305 Marine Drive, Port Angeles.

• “The Grand Salmon” will be screened at 6 tonight in Rainshadow Hall at the Dungeness River Nature Center, 1943 W. Hendrickson Road in Sequim.

The film follows three women during a 78-day paddling expedition for more than 1,000 miles of the lower Snake River.

Admission is $10 per person. Proceeds support educational activities at the center.

• Friday Night Movies will show “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the temporary location of the Sequim Branch Library, 609 W. Washington St., Sequim.

The 2023 film is an adaptation of Judy Blume’s 1970 novel which follows the experiences of an 11-year old girl contemplating life, friendship and adolescence.

• Out Loud Story Slam will be onstage at 7 tonight at Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St., Port Angeles.

The show, hosted by Nessa Goldman, will feature 10 storytellers from the audience who each will share a five-minute, true personal story on the theme, “It’s Time.”

Tickets are $12 at www.outloudstoryslam.com or $15 at the door.

The stories, and their tellers, will be judged by the audience, and the winner will be invited to a future Grand Slam storytelling event.

Libby Ballard and Cherry Bibler will lead a free Trashion Show workshop from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Guy Cole Event Center at Carrie Blake Park, 202 North Blake Ave.

Participants will learn about upcycling and reusing non-traditional materials to create a wearable art.

Materials and tools will be provided, although attendees may also bring their own supplies.

The workshop is sponsored by the Sequim Arts Commission and the Sequim Irrigation Festival Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair.

• The Port Townsend Urban Sketchers will sketch in the uptown post office, 1322 Washington St., at 10 a.m. Saturday

The group will meet at the base of the stairs inside the post office.

After sketching, the group will reconvene outside at noon to share their work and take a photo.

The event is free and open to sketchers of all skill levels.

• The League of Women Voters of Clallam County will present “Running for Local Office” at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Forks Branch Library, 171 S. Forks Ave., Forks.

League members Maren Halvorsen and Susan Fisch will discuss the tools and knowledge needed to successfully navigate the electoral process.

The presentation will cover required paperwork, deadlines and resources for candidates and will also explore strategies for connecting with voters through the Voter Pamphlet, community forums and meet-and-greet events.

• A farmers’ market is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot at Tractor Supply Co., 114 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

The market will feature fresh, locally grown produce as well as other seasonal products such as arts and crafts, food trucks, jewelry and woodwork.

• Lisa Gilbert will present “Possibilities: Book Arts and How to Create a Simple Book” from 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., Sequim.

Gilbert’s free demonstration will cover book arts and book binding.

• The North Olympic Library System will host Spring Break Build It! at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the temporary location of the Sequim Branch Library, 609 W. Washington St., Sequim.

Kids will be able to use their imagination to build their own creations out of LEGO building bricks during the free program.

Children younger than 9 must be accompanied by an adult.

• Restore the 4 will host an outreach program at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The program will begin in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.

Steve Hauff will present a brief history of the Rayonier No. 4 locomotive engine that the organization is restoring.

Hauff is a local historian and an expert on Willamette logging locomotives.

Following Hauff’s presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to cross the street to the park where the locomotive sits for an up-close viewing.

• Peter Harrison will present “Ocean Nomads: The Albatrossess” at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Wheeler Theater on Fort Worden State Park, 200 Battery Way, Port Townsend.

Harrison will discuss the 22 species of albatrosses, which are the largest flying birds.

The free presentation is part of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center’s Future of Oceans series.

Harrison’s 2021 book “Seabirds: The New Identification Guide” covers 434 seabird species.
