Banregio, which was created in 1994 and whose headquarters are precisely in Monterrey, estimates that the construction of a gigaplant in the municipality of Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, will put the state in the eye of other companies for new investments.
Rivero added that the arrival of Tesla is also good news for consumer credit because jobs will be created, better salary conditions and workers will demand credit for housing and cars.
Only in the first months of construction of the plant, credit will begin to grow, according to the manager, adding that Monterrey was already an automotive hub, so Tesla only found a prepared state but it would be expected that the suppliers around the firm also make investments.
It is estimated that with the arrival of Tesla, between 5,000 and 6,000 new jobs will be generated in the state. Meanwhile, the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA) recently calculated that the Tesla gigafactory will have a capacity of up to 750,000 units per year, equivalent to 22.6% of the total vehicle production reported in 2022.
Until now, Elon Musk’s company is looking for Mexican talent in the areas of construction, engineering, information technology, software development and service centers.
For this year, Banregio expects to grow its credit portfolio between 10% and 15% with a total amount that exceeds 155,000 million pesos. The bank also estimates that this year it will have a profit growth of between 10 and 12%.
