Microsoft has unveiled an update to its Exchange Server software amid the possibility that a number of private companies in the United States could be attacked by a group of hackers with alleged links to China. The corresponding statement was published on Tuesday on the corporation's website, TASS reported.

According to widespread reports, the group named Hafnium includes experienced and qualified hackers. It operates in China. Its activities are allegedly aimed at American companies operating in various industries, law firms, universities, non-governmental organizations, think tanks, and a number of others.

Members of this group have recently carried out several attacks using a previously unknown mechanism, in which passwords were stolen or vulnerabilities were found in the work of Microsoft's Exchange Server messaging and corporate communications program. According to Microsoft, private clients of the company will face no issues as a result of the attacks. The company noted that it had notified the relevant US government departments of the attacks.
